About Josh Pears

Fear No Art.

It's not just a philosophy. It's tattooed down my arm.

I have spent 15 years at the intersection of psychology, technology, and design building brands that do not just look right but feel inevitable. I came up through fine art before the internet existed in my world, reverse-engineered web code during Y2K out of pure obsession, and have never stopped working at the edges of what a brand can be. My work operates across identity systems, character IP, digital platforms, motion, photography, and environmental design. Not because I could not choose a lane, but because the most interesting brand problems do not live in one. Range is not the absence of focus. It is the ability to hold a brand’s truth across every medium it touches.

Where it started

The Origin

Built different from the beginning.

I grew up in Lancaster County, PA with paint on my hands before I had a computer. By 15, my artwork was hanging in professional galleries. By 18, I had studied oil painting, bronze sculpting, and stained glass, and apprenticed at a bronze casting studio that contributed to Penn State’s Joe Paterno statue.

Then the internet happened. I reverse-engineered websites during Y2K, taught myself HTML and CSS out of pure obsession, and never looked back. That collision between fine art craftsmanship and digital technology became the foundation of everything I build today.

The Art Institute of Philadelphia gave me the formal language for what I already knew instinctively. A B.S. in Graphic Design, a minor in Photography, and a 3.6 GPA later.

I was ready.

It's all about

The Journey

Every stop sharpened the edge.

My early career took me through some of Philadelphia’s top advertising agencies: Tierney Group, LevLane, M Group, and Electronic Ink. I learned how brands behave at scale, developed campaigns for TD Bank, built digital menu systems for Aramark, and eventually landed at Lenox Corporation, where I led front-end development and creative direction and design for luxury brands including Kate Spade and Donna Karan. That was the enterprise chapter. Rigorous. Structured. Invaluable.
In 2019, I founded Pears Media Group, a full-service design and marketing agency focused on building brands that small businesses could be proud of. We handled everything: print, digital, web, photography, PR, and strategy. Under that banner I worked with Condé Nast, Sandow, Leicht, the New York Children’s Film Festival, and Top Chef Jamie Lynch on 5 Church Charlotte, a restaurant Condé Nast Traveler called “Charlotte’s sexiest restaurant.” My photography from that era was published in Vogue and Brides. That was the entrepreneurial chapter. Scrappy. Creative. Proof that range is a superpower.
I served as VP and Art Director at BNice Productions, where I led a full rebrand and steered the company into the Web3 space, building identity systems, digital platforms, and experiences at the intersection of entertainment and emerging technology.
Now I’m building something I believe in from the ground up. Paravue is a brand agency co-founded on a simple but radical idea: businesses have forgotten what a brand actually is. It is not a logo you commission on Fiverr for $20. It is not something an AI generates in thirty seconds. A brand is a feeling. It is the vibe you get the first time you encounter a company. It is a personality, a psychology, a promise. Paravue exists to build brands right. With research. With demographic and psychographic analysis. With intention. We call it Paravue because the best brands don’t just see the market clearly. They see beyond it. As Co-Founder, Partner, and Creative Director, this is the chapter I’m writing right now.
How I work

The Process

Strategy first. Always.

I’ve spent years studying consumer psychology, Jungian archetypes, and behavioral theory. Not as an academic exercise. As a creative tool. Before I touch a single design file, I need to understand the audience at a psychological level. What do they fear? What do they desire? What archetype does this brand need to embody to earn their trust? That research shapes everything: the color palette, the typography, the tone of voice, the motion language, the digital experience. Design without psychology is decoration. I’m not in the decoration business.

The best brands don’t just look good. They feel inevitable. That’s the standard I hold every project to, whether it’s a full identity system, a digital platform, or a single touchpoint. Every decision has a reason. Every reason has a strategy behind it.

Beyond the work

The Person

Still creating. Always moving.

When I’m not directing brands, I’m behind a lens, shooting fashion, editorial, and documentary work that keeps my eye sharp and my instincts honest. I’m based in New Jersey, working remotely, and built for the kind of freedom that lets me do my best work. At a desk, on location, or somewhere I haven’t been yet. I produce music. I study psychology. I never stop learning. That’s the point.
